Natural Gas


Natural gas is distributed by the Scottsboro Gas Board, Bridgeport Gas Board, Stevenson Utilities Board and the Dekalb-Cherokee Gas System. Scottsboro and Dekalb-Cherokee are supplied by Southern Natural Gas, Inc. Bridgeport and Stevenson (via Bridgeport) are supplied by East Tennessee Gas System.

Landfill


The City of Scottsboro owns and operates their own landfill. This site is about 156 acres in total area located in Jackson County near Martintown Community. The landfill operates under a permit in full compliance with applicable Federal and State regulations to dispose of inert and sanitary waste. Sufficient space is available to handle future waste loads for the next 60-65 years with normal growth and increased waste loads from the expanded service area.

Inert Waste: $29.64 per ton
Sanitary Waste: $38.45 per ton

20 yard roll-off: $153.75 per disposal/$41.00 rental

Residents of the county are serviced by The Jackson County Solid Waste Authority which is owned by the county. All waste collected by the county is disposed of in the city landfill. The city also has a curbside recycling program and drop-off points for those who live outside the city limits.





4-lane US Highway 72 runs through Jackson County between Huntsville, Alabama and Chattanooga, Tennessee.
