JLJC 2008-2009

Junior Leadership Jackson County (JLJC) completed another successful year, with 30 high school juniors in the program, The program began with orientation at Camp Maranatha in September, followed by classes in agriculture, local history, industry/tourism, local government, education and media, health care, and State government each month through April. The students also participate in various community service events to gain credits towards application for scholarships made available in their Senior year of high school. The graduation ceremony was held on May 6 at the Goosepond Civic Center, attended by the JLJC program Co-chairs, students, and parents.

Four $500 scholarships were awarded this year to students from the 2006/2007 school year as follows:

Brittany Webb - North Jackson
Raquel Walker - North Jackson
Sara Alley - Scottsboro
Allison Bivens - Scottsboro

Graduates from the adult Leadership Jackson County program interview high school Juniors that apply for the program from all Jackson County High Schools to select 30 or more with outstanding potential for life and leadership training. Selection criteria includes grades, curriculum taken, honors and awards, community service involvement, work activities, and an essay. JLJC works to make great high school students into outstanding people and leaders for the future of Jackson County.
